Amazing night tonight at Velour. I was lucky enough to fill in for another sound guy for two of my favorite local bands: Cory Mon & The Starlight Gospel and Code Hero. Check them both out asap!

These guys have such a cool sound it blows your mind a little. Great electronic beats and tones combine with very talented guitarists and keyboard players to make for not only a great sound but a great presence on stage. Code Hero's front man Nate Pyfer has a such a captivating emotion that you'll get sucked in immediately.

Cory Mon & The Starlight Gospel - Utah

Such a catchy band that I just can't help but love these guys. One of the first bands I ever mixed back when I was working at BYU, I've always loved going to see them play. True to their genre they have some great folk tunes, but can stretch the boundaries at times to make for a great show. The lyrics will keep you thinking for long after the show is over. Check em out.

Two great musicians tonight along with some others, but I (and my lovely date) fell in love with these two.

Jonathan Stark -- Denver, CO

The look matches the music. Jon walked in very unassuming. Stepping on stage his humility and love for music came through stronger than anything else. Heartfelt lyrics and a great ear for the perfect acoustic undertones, its music you can listen to for days, especially cuddled up to one who "has your heart, and stuff..."

Crisanta -- Colorado

Possibly even more unassuming than her tour-mate Jon Stark, Crisanta's voice turns head and melts your heart with a single note. Unique in her style and her tone, and singing a few songs along with Jon, she made for a great show.

Three great bands tonight, two touring and one local.

Camera Can't Lie -- Twin Cities

Great band, familiar sound, fun lyrics and melodies. Lead singer is a great talent, and has a very capable band supporting him.

We Shot The Moon -- San Diego, CA

Very enticing presence on stage. They suck you in and keep you there with great songs. They show what can be done with a group of very talented musicians.

Allred -- Salt Lake City, UT

Local to Utah, John Allred heads up a great band of younger musicians. Catchy songs with great guitar riffs anchor the full band, while as a solo act Allred has mastered the delay or "loop" to create a sound that will have you hooked after just seconds.

So, here's my new blog

I have been thinking lately about how nice it is to be able to see more live shows with my new schedule. I figure I can do more than just enjoy the show and let it fade into the past, mainly by sharing through this blog some "sound bytes" about what I was able to see. I'll share some short comments about some or all of the bands that I got to see, and if deemed worthy of it, I'll post some links or videos of the bands I think you should check out. So enjoy!
